The art of aroma therapy has been practiced since ancient civilizations such as the Egyptian. Since 1990, nurses have considered that the increased technology of health care their ability to practice holistic care which is positively entrenched in the philosophy of nursing. Nurse is one who takes care of patient’s environment and his treatment plan. Earlier, the massages and therapies were done by nurses; maybe due to specialization and workload on nurses, now this area is handled by aroma therapists. It is necessary for nurses to keep abreast of the recent advancements and developments in the field of health science. Nurses should acquire the basic understanding of the properties of essential oils and knowledge of safe application of a few commonly available oils in their practice. Ideally, if nurses plan to use essential oils for patients or for environment fragrance or aesthetic effects or treatment modality, then nurses should be guided by the professional and legislative requirements of the registering body in their state or country.

Intravenous therapy is important in modern medicine. Millions of patients are receiving infusion therapy for life saving and for correcting the metabolic disorders through drugs, nutrition, solutions and blood products. Eighty percent of the patients receive infusion therapy during their hospital stay. Many patients require intravenous therapy when oral intake is impossible (e.g., during and after surgery). The availability of intravenous access allows the practitioner to administer medications that can immediately relieve airway obstruction, reverse bradycardia, and administer specific reversal drugs for patients who become inadvertently over sedated with benzodiazepines or opioids. Peripheral intravenous cannulation is a simple procedure, but it tests the skill and the experience of both medical and nursing personnel

Good tracheostomy management has a significant impact on the patient’s general well-being and quality of life. It is, therefore, important that nurses are equipped with appropriate skills and knowledge to care for patients safely and competently and to avert possible complications. The goals of tracheostomy care are to maintain the patency of the airway, prevent breakdown of the skin surrounding the site, and prevent infection. Sterile technique should be used during the procedure.

Ebola first appeared in 1976 in two simultaneous outbreaks, in Nzara, Sudan, and in Yambuku, Democratic Republic of Congo. The latter was in a village situated near the Ebola River, from which the disease takes its name. It has not been reported in humans in the Asia Pacific region as of 31 July 2012. However, with global travel, it is possible that outbreaks in Africa could result in the spread of the virus to Asia.

The study was conducted in SIMS Hospital, Kollam, to assess the knowledge on self-administration of insulin among diabetic patients attending OPD. A sample of 30 was selected. The knowledge was assessed with the help of a structured questionnaire. Results showed that 16.6% had poor knowledge and 83.4% had average knowledge. The demographic variables like age, sex, religion, area of residence, family education, occupation, monthly income and source of information had no significant association with knowledge on self-administration of insulin
